Hello and happy Sunday everyone! That is, if anyone is still out there reading. I realize I have not been the most consistent blogger as of late—erm, four months—and I’d like to tell you guys that’s all going to change but I’m won’t. Mainly, because you’ve heard that song and dance from me before and I haven’t followed through😦
Well it’s been a minute, two weeks to be precise, but as promised, I’m back in action this Sunday morning. Lots to go over and catch up on so let’s dive right in.
Happy Sunday everyone. I hope you all had an excellent week. This week, like most, has been a whirlwind. Life has gone into hyper-speed it seems. Of course, that’s nothing unusual after being gone the weekend before. Spent a good portion of the week catching up on some household duties but the majority was spent playing nursemaid to Belle, which mainly entails holding and snuggling with my sweet boy and enjoying every moment I have left with him.
When I wasn’t running errands and unlocking new achievements of catlady life, I was able to produce a couple of really productive writing days. My characters have been wonderful and giving me so much. One day I even caught myself grinning like an idiot while writing a scene. It’s been fun and refreshing and great place to retreat to when the days get overwhelming and a bit sad.
I did have a bright spot yesterday when I met up with Merida, my cousin’s fiancé, and did a bit of retail therapy. Usually I’m not a fan of shopping but Merida makes it pretty painless. Plus she had a question to ask me…a big one. She asked me to be a bridesmaid in their wedding! I was so extremely moved and touched by her proposal. It’s gonna be a lot of fun being involved in her wedding. I can’t wait😀
Reading: I have a new love and her name is Rainbow Rowell. Yes, I’ve finally jumped on the RR train. I read Eleanor and Park in an evening. I started it after after dinner one evening, not looking up until the last word was read, sometime around midnight. Her characters are real: deeply flawed, hilarious, and heartbreaking. I love stories and characters like that. Ones that make you laugh through the tears. I’m gonna finish Fangirl today and then maybe start Carry On. Yes, I’m all in on RR.
Watching: This week I discovered Orphan Black. Wow. Just wow. Although I don’t understand a lot of the things they’re saying or the science behind it, I think it’s amazing and cannot stop watching it. I started season 3 last night. Tatiana Maslany is phenomenal in her roles. Playing so many different characters with different accents and mannerisms is mind blowing. She brings such unique qualities to each one. I love it!
So this might be somewhat of a weird request but I need some help with a writing playlist. I’m looking for really great break up/lost/unrequited love songs. Super sad, tear inducing, heartbreaking, soul crushing songs which will enable me to get into the headspace to emotionally destroy my characters. Wow that sounds harsh but oh well #writerslife ;p I have some trusty standbys but I’m looking for new ones. Any and all genres are welcome. Bonus points for recommendations that get me to this point.
My Top 5:
1. Dreaming with a Broken Heart — John Mayer
2. Anytime — Brian McKnight
3. Who Knew — P!nk
4. Not Over You — Gavin Degraw
5. So Close — John McLaughlin
I’m going to be quiet on here this week and into next week. Next weekend, Labor Day weekend, I will be down in South Georgia at a family reunion. It is so much fun and one of the highlights during the year. Y’all I can’t even tell you how great it is. This year marks the 40th anniversary and it just so happens that I’m the one in charge. Why anyone thought that was a good idea, I’ll never know.
Since it is such a big milestone, we’ve been putting in even more effort to make this a special occasion. So this week, I’ll be running around, trying to get everything ready for the weekend. I think removing the pressure of blog posts is the smartest thing I can do in order to still maintain at least a little bit of sanity. But I promise, I’ll be back next Tuesday to share all of the crazy, family shenanigans that take place during the weekend. And believe me, there will be plenty.
Have no fear though, I will still be around. I plan to catch up on my blog reading (for real, I promise I’m going to catch up) and you guys can always find me in Twitter. I hope all have a wonderful week!!!! Big hugs to all!!
Time for your weekly dose of adorable. This video is jam packed with a variety of cute animals and is sure to give you *heart eyes* in no time. Enjoy!!
Yesterday I was traveling home from Florida and was unable to get my usual Sunday Funday post up. I was naive enough to think I’d have time to get it written over the weekend but I should have known better. Nothing productive gets accomplished when I’m with my family :p To make up for my negligence, today will be a hybrid post…Welcome to Monday Funday Musings! This might be a little light on the musings side of things but we’ll see how it goes. Let’s dive right in shall we? Continue reading
I love owls! I’m a librarian, how could I not? :p I love them so much I even collect them–jewelry, pictures, figurines, little stuffed animals.
You know the saying: You make plans and God laughs? I think the same can be said for novels. I started the month filled with hope and ambition. Visions of grander danced in my mind that this month would hold great things for me and my characters. Inspiration would flow allowing me write ALL of the words with little to no issue. I’d set goals and made plans and thought about every possible obstacle that might be standing in between me and writing greatness. I had prepped for battle and was ready for victory. To which my characters’ responded like this:
